MIRPURKHAS, July 28: Prolonged loadshedding forced the residents of Hameedpura Colony, Ishaque Colony, Hirabad, and Thomasabad to gather at the Colony Chowk and block the main Ring Road, on Monday.

They burnt tyres and staged a sit-in demanding reduction in loadshedding duration. This resulted in the suspension of traffic for sometime.

Protesters condemned Hesco officials for creating troubles for consumers as they pass sleepless nights. They said Hesco officials were violating the six-hourly duration by stretching it to 10 hours daily.

They lambasted the utility for sending inflated and incorrect meter read bills. They demanded the Chairman Wapda and chief executive Hesco to take notice of it and reduce the duration.

POLIO: The three-day polio eradication campaign has begun from today in the district, said EDO Health, Mirpurkhas, Dr Khadim Hussain Lakhair.

According to a handout issued on Monday, some 2,23,182 children of up to five-year-old will be administered polio drops, while children from five month to five years will be vaccinated under the EPI programme.

Dr Lakhiar said 715 teams had been constituted to make it a successful campaign.
