Two drown

GUJRAT, July 23: Two girls of a family drowned in the Jhelum while another was rescued near Sara-i-Alamgir on Tuesday evening.

Reports said that families of two brothers, Zaki Shah and Dr Nadeem Shah of Kotian village, had gone to a picnic on the bank of the river. Their three daughters were enjoying in the water when a strong current swept them away.

Two of them, a 22-year-old medical college student and daughter of Dr Nadeem, and 16-year-old daughter of Zaki, who had returned from Norway a few days ago, drowned. However, the second daughter of Dr Nadeem was rescued.

Their bodies were later fished out and they were laid to rest in the graveyard of their native village on Wednesday.
