KARACHI: Suspect shot dead

KARACHI, July 20: A suspected dacoit, who barged into the house of a police officer along with four other accomplices, was shot dead by the house owner.

Azizabad police said a gang of five robbers entered into the house of Inspector Javed Hussain near Okhai Memon Hall in Block 2 of the Federal B’ Area on Sunday. They said the inspector woke up as he heard the noise and challenged the dacoits, who opened fire at him. The inspector also returned the fire, killing one of them. The body was later shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The suspect was identified as Umer, son of Zulfiqar, a resident of Hussainabad.

The police registered a case against unknown bandits on the complaint of Inspector Javed Hussain, who is posted at Taimuria police station as the Station Investigation Officer.

Meanwhile, four people were wounded in a firing incident at Cattle Colony in the Sukkun police limits.

Police said a quarrel between children involved their elders, who exchanged fire. Four people, identified as Haji Sultan, Mohammed Qasim, Nasir and Usman, were wounded. They were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Police later registered a case against Haji Gul and others on a complaint of one of the injured, Haji Sultan. No arrest was, however, made till the filing of this report. —Staff Reporter
