MIRPURKHAS, July 14: Religious leaders of Umerkot held a demonstration on Monday in protest against posting of some blasphemous letters to different mosques and prayer leaders of Kunri.

Pir Ayub Jan Sarhandi led the protest. The protesters chanted slogans against culprits and demanded their arrest.

Later, addressing a press conference, Pir Ayub Jan Sarhandi, Maulana Akbar, Maulana Adeel, Maulana A Haleem Halepoto, Maulana A Majeed Naqshbandi, Mufti M Sharif Saidi, Maulana Ghulam Mustafa Sabri and Maulana Nazar Mahammad Dars said that the act of sending blasphemous letters to religious leaders of Kunri had hurt the sentiments of Muslims.

They said it was a conspiracy to foment unrest and ignite Hindu-Muslim riots.

They said two weeks had passed and suspects had been identified but authorities had taken no action.

They said a neighbouring country’s intelligence agencies could be behind the conspiracy. They slammed authorities for applying delaying tactics.
