GUJAR KHAN, July 14: A proclaimed offender ended his life while evading arrest on Monday afternoon.

According to sources, Sohawa police got a tip-off that a highwayman was loading a stolen mare into a truck. A police party reached the spot and on seeing them, the robber rode away on the mare towards a jungle.

The police as well as public also chased him. After some time the robber could not go any further because of the dam.

According to eyewitnesses, when the robber realised that he had no chance to escape, he shot himself to his head.

His body was taken to Sohawa hospital where he was identified as Ghafar Hussain alias Ghufara, a resident of Changa Bangial village.

Investigations revealed that he had been involved in looting petrol pumps and killing commuters who offered resistance.—Our Correspondent
