LAHORE, May 4: A week after ruling out prolific opening batsman Saeed Anwar from the two-match Test series against New Zealand, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) named the former skipper in the squad of 16 players for the second Test at Karachi commencing from May 8.
Saeed, who had suffered stress facture in December last year and has been out of the game since then, having last played for Pakistan in Sharjah Cup in November 2001.
Last week PCB medical panel opined that the bearded left- handed batsman needs to train regularly for a period of three to four weeks before achieving the form and fitness required to play at international level after recovering from the injury.
But now the 28-year-old left-hander has been included by the national selectors in the squad for the Karachi team.
The squad is: Imran Nazir, Saeed Anwar, Shahid Afridi, Yousaf Youhana, Inzamamul Haq, Younis Khan, Abdul Razzaq, Waqar Younis (Captain), Shoaib Akhtar, Saqlain Mushtaq, Danish Kaneria, Shoaib Malik, Wasim Akram, Mohammad Sami and Misbahul Haq.—APP
