Traders baton-charged

KASUR, May 4: Pattoki City police on Saturday baton-charged and injured around half a dozen traders for staging a protest against police excesses.

Muhammad Zulfiqar had purchased some stolen ornaments from a man about a year ago. Police arrested the culprit and came to the shop of goldsmith for the recovery of ornaments. Police allegedly thrashed Zulfikar and tried to arrest him. Meanwhile, other goldsmiths and shopkeepers gathered there and saved him from the police.

Later, the traders shut their shops and took out a rally against the police attitude and also raised slogans against the Kasur police. The police resorted to baton charge as a result of which about six traders sustained wounds.

Later, the traders at a meeting decided to observe a complete strike on Sunday (today) against the misbehaviour of police.
