PESHAWAR, May 4: A member of Eastern Shoora and the provincial chief of the Hizb-i-Islami (Khalis) in the eastern Kunar province, Haji Hazarat Rehman, has asked the Kabul administration to remove Governor Jehandad immediately and save Kunar from bloodshed.

Speaking at a press conference in Khar, Bajaur, he alleged that Kunar governor, in connivance with Haji Roohullah of the Salfia organisation, was targeting his political opponents which aggravated the situation of the area.

Mr Rehman, also chief of the Mamoond tribes, said if Karzai government failed in taking action against Jehandad, the situation in the province would become out of control in the future.

Two days back, he also alleged, Kunar governor’s armed men raided the area to drove away 21 vehicles which had been handed over by the fleeing Taliban to the local tribes men, but the people forced them to flee.

The tribesmen, he said, would hand over these vehicles to the legal nominees of the Kabul administration, but not to Jehandad’s men.

The law and order situation was worsening day by day under the administration of Jehandad, he added.
