NEW DELHI, July 12: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has mildly censured India’s Test captain Anil Kumble for revealing what transpired in a selection meeting.

Selection committee chairman Dilip Vengsarkar was unhappy on Saturday with certain comments that Kumble made to a Mumbai tabloid the other day.

Kumble told Mumbai Mirror that he insisted on a second wicketkeeper (for the Sri Lanka Test series) because there was a view among some of the selectors that the Indian team could do with one specialist.

Kumble said that there was nothing wrong in taking the additional specialist wicketkeeper. BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah cautioned Kumble for his remarks. “You are aware that proceedings of the selection committee are not supposed to be divulged and are certainly not meant for public discussion. As a senior player, you should have restrained from such interviews.”—Agencies
