GUJRANWALA, July 12: As many as three passengers were killed while 25 others suffered injuries when a speeding bus struck against a road-side tree here on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Muhammad Mansha, Naveed Ahmad and Karimullah. The injured were rushed to the DHQ hospital where the condition of Asghar and Imran was stated to be critical.

Qilla Dedar Singh police have registered a case against the driver of the vehicle.

ENCOUNTER: A robber was killed in an encounter with police while two others escaped near Kamoki on Saturday.

Reports said three robbers were looting passers-by on the road. They deprived Imran of his motorcycle at gunpoint.

In the meantime, a police party reached there and tried to arrest robbers, but they opened fire on the police.

During an armed clash, a robber was killed while his two accomplices managed their escape.

BISE: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Gujranwala, on Saturday issued a notification regarding old system of academic session and informed public and private schools accordingly.

Board chairman Muhammad Akram Chaudhry pointed out that the new academic session would start from April 1, 2009 and conclude on March 31, 2010.
