LAHORE, July 10: The Punjab Entertainment Company is mired in controversy as yet another committee has been constituted to check its affairs, with the provincial government wanting to wind it up at the earliest.

Official sources informed Dawn on Thursday that a retired government officer, Farooq Naveed, was heading the new committee which had started probing financial affairs of the company.

The committee met the entertainment company officials on Wednesday, inquiring about its past spending and other financial affairs like recruitment of officials and contracts.

The Punjab government had earlier investigated the affairs of the company whose main project was establishment of the IMAX theatre in Lahore. Afterwards, it constituted two committees, one supervisory and the other implementation, to take over the IMAX theatre project. It asked the law department to check, in the meantime, as to how the company could be wound up.

Meanwhile, sources said, the board of directors of the Punjab Entertainment Company was likely to meet on July 17 or 18 to take decisions about its future.
