KARACHI, July 7: Top seed Aqeel Khan and Asim Shafik overpowered their opponents to qualify for singles quarter-finals of the Subh-e-Nau National Hard Court tennis tournament at the Modern Club here on Monday.

Aqeel found Zia Hai an easy opponent to zap and recorded a 6-2, 6-3 victory. While Asim thrashed 17-year-old Zuhair Raza 6-3, 6-0.

Zuhair Raza thrashed Noorul Rehman 6-1, 6-0 and entered the quarters of boys’ singles event.

In Ladies singles, Saba Aziz ousted Shahida Kausar 6-0, 6-1 while Natasha Afridi recorded an immaculate 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Mehreen Dada in the first round of the event.

Finals of the tournament will be played on Thursday, which will be followed by another National Tennis Tournament.
