Handball squad announced

ISLAMABAD, July 3: A 11-member squad has been named by Pakistan Handball Federation (PHBF) for the 3rd World Men’s Beach Handball Championship, scheduled to be played from July 9-13 in Cadiz, Spain.

Secretary PHBF, Muhammad Shafique, told Dawn on Thursday that the team was selected on merit and is preparing for the last one month.

He said that “Pakistan will play matches against Turkey, Libya, Egypt, Brazil and Spain in the five-day event”.

Pakistani team qualified for the 3rd World Men’s Championship after they defeated Iran, in June 2007, in the final of the qualifying round for the event from Asia, he added.

Squad:

Naseer Ahmed (captain), Manzoor Ahmed, Muhammad Sohaib, Muhammad Uzair, Babar Sultan, Tariq Iqbal, Tahir Ali, Nasrullah Khan, Syed Muhammad Abid Qadri (manager), Muhammad Shafiq (head coach), Khalid Rasheed (coach).
