ISLAMABAD, July 2: Two officials of capital police were caught red handed, running a gambling den here on late Tuesday night, police said.

Assistant Superintendent of Police City Circle Mohammad Farhan Zahid told Dawn that both the officials were constable one at Aabpara and the other in special branch.

The ASP said that he was informed that a gambling den was being run under the supervision of police personnel, but whenever he raided the site along with the team of Aabpra police, the gamblers escaped.

ASP Zahid said he got suspicious that someone from the police station informed them when the police party went for raid.

On Tuesday night, he again got an information that gambling was going on at Aabpara Market, he said, adding, that he kept the information secret and called a police team from Kohsar police station to raid the site.

The team under the supervision of the ASP Zahid raided the den and arrested seven persons, including two police officials, while some managed to escape.

The police party recovered and seized Rs50,000 stake money from the gamblers. A case has been registered against them and police started investigation, besides tracing the accused who escaped.

ASP Zahid said that the police were interrogating the gamblers to trace their links in police department.
