KARACHI, June 29: Five of the 18 towns of the metropolis approved their respective budgets on Saturday.
Jamshed Town Nazim Javed Ahmed presented a Rs1.13 billion which earmarks a sum of Rs737.550 million for development and Rs.393.58 million as non-development expenditure.
Liaquatabad Town Nazim Osama Qadri presented a tax-free budget with an outlay of Rs593.503 million, showing a surplus amount of Rs2.8 million. The town council unanimously approved the budget.
According to the budget document, Rs239.32 million has been earmarked for development works and Rs351.30 million as non-development expenditure.
New Karachi Town Nazim Mohammad Zulfiqar presented Rs465.30 million tax-free surplus budget which was unanimously approved.
The budget envisages Rs256.45 million for development and Rs208.85 million for non-development expenditure.
Gulshan Town Nazim Mohammad Wasey Jalil presented a Rs1.2 billion surplus budget to the town council which approved it with a majority vote.
According to the budget document, Rs858 million has been earmarked for development which includes improvement of roads and installation of streetlights (Rs342 million) and laying of parks and playgrounds (Rs64 million).
Shah Faisal Town Nazim Karimuddin presented a tax-free surplus budget with an outlay of Rs387.024 million which was approved unanimously by the town council.
The major chunk of the budgetary allocation i.e. 48.5 per cent has been earmarked for development works and Rs199.398 million for non-development expenditure. The receipts have been estimated at Rs264.264 million, including Rs214.264 million octroi zila tax from the provincial government.—Staff Reporter
