KOHAT, May 3: The NWFP Governor, Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, has said the government will consider the genuine concerns of politicians, regarding the delimitation of constituencies, and restore the original boundaries wherever necessary.

He was listening to the complaints of Ustarzai Union Council Nazim and Ittehad Bainul Muslimeen Chief Syed Mehtabul Hassan who called on him at the Governor House in Peshawar on Friday, Mehtab told Dawn.

The Nazim said he informed the governor that the Election Commission had reconstituted the three constituencies of Kohat without taking into consideration the social, cultural and linguistic proximity of different communities, which may cause tension in the area. The decisions affected a particular community of Kohat, he complained.

The Nazim demanded that in view of the large area of Kohat the number of provincial assembly seats should be raised from three to four so that all the communities could be represented in a better way in the future set up.

The Ustarzai area, which was situated in the far east, had been merged with Shakardarra in the extreme south west, which was an illogical decision, he said. He demanded that his area, where 99 per cent people belonged to one community, should be declared as a separate constituency.

The governor assured him that he would look into the matter and remove the genuine grievances of the people in this regard, as soon as possible.
