KARACHI, June 17: A suspected robber was killed on Tuesday during a bungled house robbery in Mohammed Ali Housing Society, witnesses and police said.

Bahadurabad police said a gang of four dacoits barged into the house of Abid Shirazi, a businessman, on Ghazi Salahuddin Road at around 4am by cutting apart a window grill.

The police said the intruders held the inmates hostage at gunpoint and scooped up cash, jewelry and valuables from the house.

They said the dacoits became jittery during the robbery and opened fire on the inmates slightly injuring the mother, wife and a son of the house owner.

The police said a police party reached the spot when the dacoits were fleeing the scene and during a shootout one of the culprits was killed.

They said two other robbers were also injured, but they managed to flee the scene.

However, sources said the dacoit was killed when one of the inmates opened fire on the fleeing dacoit.
