GUJRANWALA, June 14: A recovery team of the Excise and Taxation Department allegedly roughed up an NGO chief and two female staff over the issue of outstanding dues on Civil Hospital Road here on Saturday.

Reports said that the four-member recovery team went to the Sundas Foundation office for the recovery of dues. Both parties engaged in harsh words and the excise team later roughed up NGO’s chief Haji Sarfraz and his two staffers. They were rescued by nearby shopkeepers.

Taking a serious notice, DCO Pervaiz Ahmad Khan inducted DDO (R) Kamran Afridi as an inquiry officer and asked him to submit the report within 24 hours.

BAIL GRANTED: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 judge Muhammad Shafi granted pre-arrest bail to former PML-Q MPA Nasir Cheema till June 21 in an abduction case.

Meanwhile, another court granted the five-day physical remand of an MPA’s six accomplices to Wanike Tarar police.

DROWNS: A youth drowned in Upper Chenab Canal in Farid Town here on Saturday.

Reports said that Sajid of Satellite Town jumped into the canal from the Chichar Wali bridge, but could emerge. The divers later fished out the body.
