LANDI KOTAL, June 14: The committee of local clerics arrested three persons for dealing in drugs and confiscated VCD and TV sets from residents at Landi Kotal bazaar during raids conducted with the assistance of local political administration.

A senior member of the committee, Mulana Ateeq, told Dawn that the raids at the secret selling points of contraband were carried out after their prior notices were not paid any heed by the alleged dealers.

The Maulana said the arrested men, identified as Zartullah and Sharif Khan, were handed over to the local administration while an Afghan national Ateeq Khan was still in their captivity. He said that about three kilograms heroin was recovered from their possession. He blamed the arrested men for selling drugs to local addicts.

Maulana Ateeq said that his moral brigade also seized dozens of CDs, television sets and VCDs during raids at some residential quarters in Landi Kotal bazaar. All the confiscated material was burnt in front of a sizable crowd, the Mulana informed.
