KARACHI, June 12: The Sindh cabinet at its special meeting on Thursday reviewed the overall working of the government and assessed the performance of every department.

PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, who was present at the meeting besides ministers of the coalition partners in the government, stressed the desire for further improvement in administration by ministers of the coalition government.

This was stated by Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri, who was addressing a press conference after the meeting at the Chief Minister’s House.

She said during the meeting, none of the ministers raised any controversial issues or differences and instead, the participants advanced suggestions and ideas for better and effective working of the government.

She said the challenges and problems being faced by the government were also highlighted by the ministers and development plans and strategies were discussed.

In reply to a question, she said that it was owing to the conciliatory approach of Mr Zardari that political parties having mandates from the people were coalition partners in the government. She added that the government would complete its five year tenure.

When asked if differences between the city district government and the provincial government over postings and transfers were discussed, Ms Marri said there was no mention of such matters. However, she said that Mr Zardari’s approach was that with taking the differences into consideration, everyone should work with the spirit of fraternity for the betterment of the people, development and progress of the province and country.

In reply to yet another question, she said that although the new budget did not feature on the agenda, it would be a ‘people friendly’ budget.

Replying to a question about the views of Asif Ali Zardari concerning the performance of the Sindh government, Shazia Marri said it would be premature to give any verdict or report on the question of performance, adds APP.

She told a questioner that in the meeting, issues of water, power and unemployment were also discussed.

She said that no one is happy with the working of the Karachi Electric Supply Company, adding that although the KESC is a private entity now, we cannot keep ourselves aloof from its working when people are faced with grave problems.

Mr Zardari also distributed compensation cheques among the heirs and family members of PPP workers who lost their lives in the May 12 and October 18 incidents.
