Criminals gun down doctor

SHEIKHUPURA, June 11: A doctor was shot dead allegedly by two proclaimed offenders in his clinic in Machike, Sargodha Road, some 60km from the city, on Wednesday.

Dr Abdur Rashid, the son-in-law of PPP MNA Saghira Islam, was sitting in his clinic when Omer along with an accomplice came there and shot him dead.

Following the incident, relatives of the doctor and villagers blocked Sargodha Road.

SIX HELD: Sharaqpur police claimed on Wednesday to have arrested six drug smugglers and seized about 65kg hashish following a tip- off.

A police party, led by SHO Younas Dogar and SI Farid, stopped a car near a bund on Jaranwala Road. The police recovered 65kg hashish concealed in different parts of the vehicle and arrested six people. Five of them were identified as Faisal, Liaquat alias Fakira, Farooq, Faisal Qasai and Afzal.

District police officer Zaeem Iqbal Sheikh said the accused used to supply the contraband in Faizabad, Mor Khunda, Nankana and other parts of the district. Further investigation is under way.
