PESHAWAR, June 7: The Food and Agriculture Organisation, while appreciating performance of the Provincial Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Agency, said the role defined by respective organisations should not be limited, but “we have to work beyond the terms of reference for early recovery of earthquake survivors, who are looking to us”.

An evaluation mission of the FAO comprising Olivies Cossec John Watt and Mohammad Riaz said this during debriefing to Perra and line departments on projects of the organisation in the earthquake-affected area here on Saturday.

Perra director-general Nasir Azam stressed that funds used by donor organisations should accommodate the affected people equally and innovative ideas be introduced to open new corridors for financial uplift of the quake survivors.

He said line departments concerned should be kept in the loop by donor organisations, otherwise ownership after completion of projects could become another issue.

He said Perra would support all projects at the provincial level and would assist organisations involved in reconstruction and rehabilitation activities in the five affected districts of the NWFP. He added that the capacity of line departments was needed to be enhanced to complete the task.

Earlier, the FAO team members listed the relief provided to farmers in the earthquake-affected region, including fertilisers, seeds, shelter for livestock etc.
