QUETTA, June 5: A nine-year-old girl and her younger brother were killed when a powerful bomb blew up in the Sariab area a portion of the main railway track linking Quetta with the rest of the country.

According to police, the bomb planted near the Killi Zareen railway line exploded at around 8.30am on Thursday when Bolan Mail from Karachi was due in Quetta.

Hameeda Bibi and five-year-old Khalid Hussain who were playing near the railway line, were seriously injured. They died in the civil hospital.

“A two-foot portion of the track was damaged,” railways officials said, adding that trains coming from Karachi and Rawalpindi had been stopped at other stations.

The damaged track was repaired in the afternoon.
