HYDERABAD, June 1: A large number of kiln workers held a demonstration under the banner of Hari Mazdoor Tanzeem outside the press club on Sunday, in protest against alleged kidnapping and sale of 60 kiln workers.

Labour leaders Junaid Oad, Sabhago Oad, Sodho Oad and Juma Oad said that the 60 workers who owed money to Koka Pathan, owners of a kiln near Tando Haider, were sold out to some kilnowners of Multan who took them away by force on Saturday.

They alleged that some of the men who kidnapped the unfortunate workers were in police uniforms and appealed to the senior police officials to recover their kidnapped colleagues.

DOCTORS: Doctors who had passed an examination conducted by the Public Service Commission staged a demonstration outside the press club on Sunday against delay in issuance of appointment letters.

Dr Arbia, Dr Asif Nabi and others said at a news conference that they had passed the PSC examination held in October 2007 for appointment to grade-17 posts in the Population Welfare Department. They said that 130 lady doctors and 4 male doctors passed the examination in March this year but they had not yet received appointment letters although candidates for the posts of lecturer and prosecution branch officials who had also passed the examination had already received offer letters.

If they did not get offer letters they would stage demonstrations outside the Bilawal House, the Chief Minister’s House and the Sindh Assembly, they warned and appealed to the authorities to provide them justice.
