QUETTA, May 31: A shutterdown strike was observed here on Saturday on a call given by the traders association in protest against the killing of six teenagers the previous day.

All educational institutions, including the Balochistan University, remained closed. There was thin traffic on the roads as a majority of people preferred to stay at homes. The local administration made foolproof security arrangements on the occasion. Heavy contingents of law-enforcement personnel were deployed at important places and bazaars.

Speaking at a press conference, Anjuman Tajran president Abdul Rahim Kakar said that the government should take steps to stop such incidents. He said that traders had opposed the military operation in the province and demanded that all issues should be resolved through negotiations.
