KARACHI, May 29: A former worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was gunned down by unknown assailants in North Karachi late Wednesday night, police said.

Waseem Ahmed, 45, alias Bold, was shot dead outside his house in Sector 11-E, North Karachi, by two masked men. Waseem sustained serious bullet wounds and died on the spot.

The victim was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors said he had suffered multiple bullet wounds fired from a close range.

Following the legal formalities, police handed over the body to his brother, Nadeem Ahmed. An FIR was registered against unknown persons on the complaint of the victim’s brother, police said.

Police said the deceased had had an association with the MQM. He had around 40 criminal cases, including that of murder, registered at different police stations. Around 10 were registered at the Sir Syed police station alone, police said.

Police said after being twice arrested and sent to jail, he was recently released from jail on bail. Police quoting family sources said the deceased was an electrician.

Watchman killed

A watchman was shot dead by unknown persons in Korangi on Thursday night.

Police said Alam Shah, 45, was shot dead by unknown persons near Jameel Masjid, Sector 35-A of Korangi.

The murders appeared to be driven by personal enmity “as there were no signs of resistance on part of the watchman”.

Following the incident, police shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a postmortem examination. Later, police handed over the body to the family.
