Notice to Shahbaz

Published May 29, 2008

LAHORE, May 28: An election tribunal of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday served notice on PML-N President Mian Shahbaz Sharif on two appeals against his candidature for May 30.

The appellants Zulfiqar Ghuman and Khurram Shah have challenged the decisions of the returning officers under which Mr Shahbaz Sharif was allowed to contest the election from PP-141 in Sialkot and PP-48 in Bhakkar respectively. On the last date of hearing the appellants had sought time to attach documents supporting their cases.

The court had then adjourned until May 30 the proceedings.

The appellants sought disqualification of Mian Shahbaz under Article 62 and 63 read with section 99 of the Peoples Representative Act of 1976. The petitioners accused Mr Shahbaz of passing derogatory remarks against the judiciary and his involvement in the Supreme Court storming case.
