LAHORE, May 28: Supreme Court Bar Association president Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan has asked the parliament to impeach Pervez Musharraf.

He was speaking at the Karachi Shuhada Hall of the Lahore High Court Bar Association here on Wednesday.

Mr Ahsan said Musharraf should himself leave the political scene otherwise the lawyers’ community could lead the long march towards the President’s House.

He said the army’s role under the command of COAS Gen Ashfaq Kiyani had been appreciable. He said Musharraf was illegally occupying the Army House denying the COAS his right.

Regarding the tape scandal, he said Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar should be proceeded against and suspended otherwise he would influence the proceedings.

“If Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry could be sent on forced leave, then a judge found involved in a scandal, should be suspended and inquired against,” he said.

Ahsan said the long march would take place on June 10 and caravans would emerge from Sindh and Balochistan on June 9 with slogans of saving the judiciary.

He asked the people to come out of their houses and join the long march along with their families.

Mr Ahsan said the campaign for the restoration of the deposed judges would continue despite all rigours of a harsh and hot weather “because we are out to save the country.”

Mr Ahsan signed a register, which is being signed by lawyers across the country as part of the lawyers’ movement for the restoration of the pre-emergency judiciary.

Talking to Sikander Javed advocate, the man behind launching the signature campaign, Mr Ahsan said it would become a part of the Guinness Book of World Record.
