Thunderstorm, rain forecast

Published May 24, 2008

ISLAMABAD, May 23: The meteorological department has forecast widespread thunderstorm and rain with isolated, heavy showers in northern Punjab and Islamabad.Scattered rains were expected in south Punjab in the coming days and the possibility of hailstorm at a few places could not be ruled out, it said.

The department said the westerly weather system over upper parts of the country was likely to produce intermittent thunderstorms and rain over various parts of the country during the next four days.

For the NWFP, Kashmir and the Northern Areas, fairly widespread thunderstorm and rain with strong gusty winds were forecast.

Heavy rains may generate landslides in mountainous areas.

Isolated thunderstorm and rain with gusty winds are expected in Quetta and Kalat regions of Balochistan and in upper Sindh. This may bring some relief from the current heat wave.—APP
