MITHI, May 23: Alternate Energy Development Board chairman Mohammad Yousuf Memon has said that many villages of Tharparkar district are too far from grid stations therefore 3,000 electricity connections are being provided to 50 of them under the Prime Minister’s Solar Electrification programme.

He was speaking at open kutcheries during a visit to some villages of Mithi and Chhachhro taluka, where houses are being electrified through solar energy.

Project Director of the programme, Riazuddin Abro told Mr Memon that 22 villages of Mithi, 10 of Diplo, five of Nagarparkar and 13 of Chhachhro taluka were going to be electrified through solar energy system and 1048, 252, 480 and 1020 houses of the four talukas, respectively, would benefit from the programme.

The chairman was informed that the work of installation of 1,048 connections in the villages of Mithi taluka had been completed and similar work was in progress in the remaining three talukas.

Mr Memon urged the programme officials to expedite pace of work and complete it till December.
