PESHAWAR, May 20: Following rocket attacks in Peshawar and a suicide blast in Mardan, the city police beefed up security and deployed law enforcers at various sensitive areas.

A police spokesman told Dawn on Tuesday that they had taken serious note of the terrorist incidents. “Directives are issued for thorough checking of the suspected persons on all the entry and exit points of the provincial capital,” he added.

The drive against tinted glasses, he said, would continue due to the prevailing circumstances, adding that at least 40 vehicles were challaned on Tuesday in this regard.

Meanwhile, Regi police claimed to have arrested two persons Zahid and his father Khiali Gul for smuggling illegal weapons from the tribal areas.

The weapons were recovered from a motor car bearing registration number Z-0694-Karachi, near Mohib Banda in limits of Regi police station on Tuesday night.
