MIANWALI, May 19: No action has been taken against three traffic head constables and a clerk after two inquiries proved them guilty of misappropriating over Rs1 million fine amount.

The accused head constables -- Ghulam Raza, Faqir Abbas, Jehan Khan and clerk Saifullah -- are still working at their office.

A couple of months ago, Mianwali traffic DSP Abdullah Khan received a complaint about the scam and held an inquiry. In his report sent to the SP, DPO and DIG, Mr Khan recommended registration of a case against the officials.

When contacted, Abdullah Khan said after his report, the DIG ordered another probe into the matter and deputed Khushab traffic DSP as inquiry officer, who also confirmed the scam.

Although the Mianwali DPO had directed the Sargodha traffic DSP to register a case against the four officials, no action was taken and they are still working at the office.

When this correspondent contacted newly appointed Sargodha traffic DSP Rehana Kausar to ascertain the fate of the inquiries, she said her predecessor had probed the matter.

“Now I will hold another inquiry to find the facts. The embezzled amount has been exaggerated.

They cannot be declared accused on the report of a DSP. Anyhow I will visit Mianwali and take action and hold another inquiry, if needed.”
