HYDERABAD, May 19: A jobless youth committed self-immolation in Wapda Colony here on Sunday night.

According to his neighbours, Ghulam Murtaza, 25, son of Ghulam Abbas Solangi, a Wapda employee, had come out of his house after power went off in the colony. He remained with his friends at the local street for a little while.

When electricity supply was restored, he and his friends left for their houses. Later, people saw his body lying on the ground.

The Hussainabad SHO said that the colony residents believed that Murtaza had gone on the rooftop of his house, doused himself with petrol and set himself on fire. After losing control of himself, he fell from the rooftop. He was taken to a hospital but did not survive.

His family hails from Larkana and the body has been sent there.

The cause of the apparent suicide could not be ascertained except that the youth was jobless.—Correspondent
