MIRPURKHAS, May 18: Around 40 specialist doctors of grade-19 have been deprived of promotion and new postings despite orders by the caretaker Sindh chief minister upgrading them from grade-19 to 20.

Talking to newsmen, the affected doctors including Anwar Ismail Memon, Dr Niaz Memon, Dr Srichand and Dr Mohammad Hanif Awan, said that they had been working in grade-19 for 10 years and their promotion had been due since 1998. A number of doctors working in grade-19 died while dreaming of their promotion to grade-20.

They said that a meeting of the provincial selection board on Jan 24, 2008 had approved promotion of 40 specialist doctors from grade-19 to 20 but a notification to this effect was not issued. They called upon the chief minister and chief secretary of Sindh to issue notification of their promotion to next grade.—BoC
