ISLAMABAD, April 28: Special advisor to the chief executive on strategic programmes, Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, exhorted philanthropists to donate generously in schemes aimed at serving humanity.

He was speaking as a chief guest at a seminar on “Hypertension: A Silent Killer” arranged by the Friends of Heart.

Executive Director of National Institute of Cardio-vascular Diseases Karachi, Dr Azhar Masood Faruqui, was the main speaker on the occasion. Dr Shaukat Mehmood Malik and Dr Mohammad Afzal Mattu also deliberated on the topic.

Dr Qadeer said he had established five clinics in the rural areas of Islamabad where medicines were provided free of cost to patients most of whom were women and children.

He said each of these clinics was daily visited by 70 to 90 patients.

Children, mostly suffering from malnutrition, were provided the required medicines, he added.

He also mentioned about a diagnostic centre established by a woman in Satellite Town where ultrasound and blood tests were carried free of cost.—APP
