SIALKOT, Oct 23: Thirteen houses were badly damaged, while four buffaloes and two goats were killed by Indian shelling on Pakistani border villages near the Sialkot working boundary on Tuesday.
According to the official sources, the Indian forces continued heavy shelling on Pakistani border villages of Bajwat, Chumb, Joriyaan, Chaprar, Sucheetgarh, Harpal, Charwa, Jammu, Shakargarh and Zafarwal sectors disrupting harvesting of paddy crops.
They said the Chenab Rangers thwarted another major Indian attempt of fencing in Shakargarh sector late on Monday night.
The firing between the Chenab Rangers and Indian forces was continuing in above mentioned sectors till filing of this report.
TEACHERS’ RECRUITMENT: The Sialkot district government has planned to recruit 2,500 male and female teachers on contract basis to fulfil requirement of various schools and college.
This was stated by district Nazim Mian Naeem Javed while addressing the annual prize distribution ceremony of the Government College for Women here on Tuesday.
He said every possible step was being taken to utilize the available resources for the promotion of education in collaboration with Unicef and the business community.
He said Sialkot has become the first district of South Asia with cent per cent primary literacy rate after the successful completion of Universal Primary Education programme with the collaboration of Unicef.
Earlier, principal Dr Zahida Iftikhar highlighted college’s academic activities.
Mian Naeem distributed prizes and appreciation certificates among the outstanding students.
CASE REGISTERED: On the report of superintendent of Sialkot District Jail, the Civil Lines police have registered a case against a woman councillor, Farida Bano, from Goharpur union council, for providing illicit pistol to a prisoner.
No arrest has yet been reported.
ACCIDENTS: Two old women were killed and 27 people injured in two accidents.
A Daska-bound bus (LXK-1090) overturned after crushing an old woman, Rasulan Bibi, on the Sialkot-Daska-Gujranwala road near village Bheello Mohar. Seven bus passengers sustained serious injuries. They were admitted to the Daska Civil Hospital.
Motra police have registered a case against the absconding bus driver.
A woman, Ghazala Bibi, died on the spot while 20 people injured when a Narowal-bound bus collided head-on with a wagon on the Narowal-Sialkot Road near Nadiyala bus stop. The injured were rushed to the Narowal DHQ Hospital. Most of the injured suffered arms and legs fractures.
