KARACHI, May 6: The Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT) on Tuesday said that it gave delivery of the containers on presentation of the requisite documents and these were released by the customs staff posted at the gates.

Citing a news item about Customs strike published in May 4 issue of Dawn it further stated that the QICT neither had the means nor the legal authority to verify customs documents.

The sole purpose of posting customs officials at the exit gates is to authenticate customs documents and give release of cargo if the documents are correct.

Suggestion by any forum implying that the QICT gave clearance to cargo on fake declarations does not hold ground, it added.
