FAISALABAD, May 5: The acting town nazim and the naib nazim of Lyallpur Town switched over their loyalties to the Pakistan Muslim League-N and Pakistan People’s Party from the PML-Q here on Monday.

Both the acting town nazim, Sajjad Ahmed Bhatti, and naib nazim Nadeem Aftab unveiled their decisions at separate press conferences.

Earlier, sources said a no-confidence motion was moved against Mr Bhatti, in a short session of the town assembly. Though, the fate of the motion was undecided in the session, Mr Aftab claimed the house defeated Mr Bhatti.

Addressing a press conference flanked by Punjab Senior Minister Raja Riaz Ahmed, Mr Aftab said the town assembly snatched powers of the acting town nazim and selected him for the post. He claimed that most of the house members supported the decision.

Mr Aftab was fielded by former Punjab Assembly speaker Afzal Sahi in the last local council elections.

He said he had support of 35 members of the house.

Mr Bhatti, however, called the no-confidence motion illegal and said the latter took joined the PPP to save his skin. He claimed that Mr Aftab had embezzled million of rupees of the Lyallpur Town.

He, flanked by PML-N MPA Zafar Iqbal Nagra, accused Mr Raja of violating the code of conduct agreed by both the PPP and the PML-N.

He alleged Mr Raja inducted the naib nazim in the party without prior approval of the party.
