SRINAGAR, April 26: Police in occupied Kashmir detained Syed Ali Geelani of the All Party Hurriyat Conference on Friday.

He was going by car to the northern township of Bandipora when he was stopped at Patan, 27kms north of Srinagar, and taken to a nearby police station.

Geelani, who this week said the Hurriyat would boycott elections due to be held later this year, was on his way to Bandipora to address a Friday prayer meeting.

The previous Friday he was placed under house arrest for several hours. —AFP
