LAHORE, May 1: Punjab Culture and Sports Minister Dr Tanveerul Islam has expressed the resolve to eliminate vulgarity and obscenity from stage dramas.

Talking to this agency here on Thursday, the minister said: “Pakistani culture, which is one of the best in the world, will be promoted in its true spirit through stage drama, film and other means of communication.”

Dr Islam warned that a strict action would be taken against the theatre and cinema owners presenting vulgar stage-shows and obscene films.

While the stage artistes resorting to obscene acts would be barred from performing in any public entertainment show, he said.

The minister said: “Whoever among the artistes perform well within the parameters of the country’s culture, will be encouraged at every level and awarded appreciation certificates.”

He said he would conduct surprise visits to theatres and cinemas to check vulgarity.-—APP
