KARACHI, April 30: The Faculties on Wednesday set a bad precedent when being the hosts, their team failed to turn up for the scheduled KU Inter-collegiate girls’ basketball final against holders Sir Syed College.

The two teams set a date for title clash after winning their pre-finals at the KU gymnasium on Tuesday.

Sir Syed notched up a 42-3 victory over Khurshid Girls College in the one-sided fixture while Faculties got the better of DHA College for Women 17-15.

“Our team, officials and the match referees waited for more than two hours from 9.00am but the Faculties failed to turn up,” sports officer of the Sir Syed College, Gulrukh, told Dawn.

Regretting the attitude of the hosts, she said this has never occurred before in the history of Karachi University.

“We are waiting for our sports officer, Ms Amna, who is struck up in some work and we can’t proceed without her,” Gulrukh said quoting a Faculties player who with teammates were present in the canteen.

The Director Physical Education (DPE), KU, Ms Abida Shaheen, was not present as she has gone to Peshawar.

Sir Syed College was finally declared the winner by the officiating officials of Directorate of Physical Education, Karachi University who also scratched the Faculties team.
