SARGODHA, April 30: A 20-feet breach in lower Jhelum canal inundated several low-lying residential areas here on Wednesday.

Around half a dozen residential colonies, including Pathan Colony, Muhammadi Colony and Maqam Hayat and Aziz Bhatti towns, along the canal bank are the worst-sufferers. Several mud houses were washed away while affected people were running for safer places.

Inhabitants were trying to plug the breach on a self-help basis as no official rescue team reached the spot till the filing of this report.

Although the police reached there and made repeated calls to the authorities concerned to plug the breach, they never turned up.

SEIZED: Lukseen police seized 16 trucks loaded with flour bags being smuggled to Afghanistan and arrested 16 accused as well.

It is learnt that the accused were involved in smuggling flour bags for the last one month in connivance with the flour millers and officials of the food department.
