Doctor found dead in flat

LAHORE, April 26: A 55-year-old doctor was found murdered at his Awami Flat apartment in Riwaz Garden early on Saturday.

The Sanda police said the victim, identified as Dr Younis, was strangulated by some people at his flat. The victim’s hands and legs were roped.

It is learnt that a local cable operator, Nasir, and his fellows visited the doctor at his flat around 12:40am and demanded the bill outstanding for four months. The moment they left the flat, the area plunged into darkness due to loadshedding and the police found him dead after 2am when the door of his apartment was open.

The police shifted the body for autopsy and registered a case on the complaint of the doctor’s brother.

Sanda Supervisory Police Officer Khalid Mahmood told Dawn that the police reached the spot around 2am after receiving a 15 call from a neighbour of the victim that his flat’s door was open and robbers might have struck his place.

The officials found Dr Younis dead and his two landline phones were engaged, the SPO said, adding that nothing was missing from the flat.

The official said Dr Younis had two wives, but he had been living in the flat alone for the last 12 years.

One of the brothers-in-law of Dr Younis from his first wife, a resident of Islampura, told police that Younis was not an MBBS doctor but a dispenser and he used to visit his family off and on.

Dr Younis’ brother, however, claimed that the deceased was an accomplished doctor who ran his clinic near Paisa Akhbar building.

Residents of Awami Flats, however, told police that Dr Younis had contracted second marriage with a woman, who was living at Hakeemanwala Bazaar along with her son. Another woman would visit Younis, he said, but it was not confirmed whether she was his third wife or an acquaintance. —Staff Reporter
