SUKKUR, April 25: Participants of a labour convention have demanded of the government to issue a notification on lifting of ban on labour unions.
Speaking at Upper Sindh Labour Convention here on Thursday, National Labour Federation President Rana Mehmood Ali Khan, Nizamuddin Shah, Haji Mashooq Kharani and others demanded promulgation of new labour laws and repeal of Industrial Relation Ordinance-2002.
They also demanded fixing minimum wages at Rs6000 and restoration of son’s quota in government departments.
The participants welcomed lifting of ban on labour unions by Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and said the ministry had yet not issued notification. They also demanded control in price hike.
WHEAT RECOVERED: Four hundred bags of wheat were recovered by a team of Food Department Sukkur on Thursday from Wah Burira village near Kandhra.
A team of Food Department led by District Food Controller Sukkur Muhammad Bachal Abro raided the village and recovered 400 bags of wheat hoarded at different places. Later the wheat was sent to a government godown.
Food Inspector Mukhtiar Ahmed Kalhoro told newsmen that most of the wheat in district Sukkur is sown in Kandhra and its allied areas. He alleged some farmers at the behest of flourmill owners were hoarding the wheat to sell at higher price and added strict action will be taken against hoarders.
He said so far 13,000 bags of wheat had been procured while remaining target would be achieved soon.
ACCIDENT: Five people, including two minor boys were injured in a road accident at Jarwar link road near Mirpur Mathelo on Friday evening.
