PESHAWAR, April 25: NWFP Minister for Prisons Mian Nisar Gul Kakakhel has shown anguish over taking labour from juvenile prisoners in Kohat prison and directed the prison administration not to repeat the act.

During a surprise visit on Friday, the minister found some juvenile prisoners engaged in labour work. He took exception to the same and directed the authorities to follow the prison rules while dealing with prisoners.

According to an official handout, Mr Kakakhel stated that the aim of provision of suitable atmosphere and training to the prisoners was to make them respectable citizens after their release. On certain complaints of prisoners, he asked the superintendent to redress them.

He said that he would visit the jail after fifteen days to see whether the problems of the prisoners had been solved or not.

He directed the jail authorities to immediately contact the provincial secretary health about the two prisoners with HIV/Aids infection so that the disease could not transfer to other prisoners.—Bureau Report
