Bhootani takes notice of eviction

Published April 25, 2008

QUETTA, April 24: Balochistan Assembly Speaker Mohammad Aslam Bhootani has taken notice of eviction of local people from their land in Hub and Gadani.

The revenue department is acquiring the land in the constituency of the speaker for setting up a unit of the DG Khan Cement.

“The revenue department must immediately stop dislodging the people from their ancestral land,” Mr Bhootani said in a statement issued here on Thursday.

He said that under the Land Revenue Act, the government could acquire a plot for construction of government buildings, roads and institutions, but it was a great injustice to force people to leave their land against their will.

The speaker asked the owners of DG Khan Cement not to start work on the proposed factory, adding that a law and order situation erupt in the area if reservations of the local people were not addressed.
