LAHORE, April 24: The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards were forced to rescind their order aimed at reducing stake-money to horses placed  first, second and third in the  Lahore Gymkhana races within two hours and restored it in full on Wednesday.

The LRC stewards had announced a sizable reduction in stake-money Wednesday. This evoked a sharp reaction and strong protest by the horse-owners, who decided not to run their animals in races from today until the order was withdrawn.

A delegation of the owners led by Sohrab Khan met the stewards and demanded withdrawal of this order and restoration of the earlier schedule of  prize-money.

They said when the maintenance cost of animals has risen so high there seems no reason  for such an action. They threatened not to send their charges to take part in races.

After half-an-hour deliberations the stewards announced that they will award stake- money according to the earlier schedule.

As  a result races started 45-minutes behind scheduled  time. Only three fancied animals won in a card of six events. All races were contested over the distance of five furlongs.

The bay gelding Star Gate partnered by jockey Shahid  Rehman came from behind  to  pip the front runner Puma Star  on the finishing  line and won the sixth and feature event.  Iram State and Aao Payar Se completed the frame.
