HYDERABAD, April 21: Speakers at a book launching ceremony have urged the Sindh department of culture and the Naushahro Feroze district government to establish a museum and a music school in the house of the legendary singer Master Chandar in Tharushah and name a road after him.

Master Chandar had migrated to India from Tharushah in 1947.

The launching ceremony of a book on Master Chandar was organised by Sahtica Academy in Dr Nabi Bux Khan Baloch hall of the Sindhi Language Authority here on Sunday. The book was written by late Dr Ghulam Qadir Soomro.

Speaking on the occasion, writer Mohammad Ibrahim Joyo dwelt at length on the history of Sindh and cited several examples of evolution of its culture and language.

He said that migration of Hindus from Sindh as a result of the partition had proved detrimental to the culture, language and literature of Sindh.

Mr Joyo said that Sindhis should now come out of ignorance and launch struggle for their rights as they had been pushed against the wall.

Sindh University Vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, who presided over the function, said that development would come through education. He said that he would request the Sindh secretary of culture to establish a cultural foundation in the name of Master Chandar in his house in Tharushah.

Majeed Khanzada, who had migrated from India in 1947 and is now living in the house of Master Chandar, said that the singer had visited Sindh and Tharushah in late 50s and was very excited when he came to see his house.

Mr Khanzada said that he had studied in Sindhi and not in Urdu.
