Old enmity claims three lives

KASUR, April 19: Three people were killed and five passers-by were injured when a rival group allegedly opened fire on their opponents after a panchayat (reconciliatory meeting) in Raja Jang Bazaar, some 25 kilometres away from here, on Saturday evening failed to sort out their differences.

The panchayat was held to help diffuse old enmity between Meermah village’s Ibraheem and Amjad groups. When the meeting ended without any breakthrough, assailants belonging to Amjad group allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on their rivals, killing Ibraheem, Ismail and Ijaz on the spot while injuring five passers-by, Sohail, Ayub, Shahbaz, Ishaq and Hanif, who were taken to the DHQ Hospital. The Raja Jang police are investigating.

ROBBERS: The police have arrested two robbers who had killed a woman on resisting robbery in Khudian police precincts a couple of months ago.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, District Police Officer Tariq Abbas Qureshi said that Rizwan, alias Bibloo, and his accomplice entered the house of Rana Din Muhammad and collected gold jewellery and valuables before fleeing. They also slaughtered Rana’s wife Samina when she resisted.

On a tip-off, the Khudian police arrested ringleader Rizwan and his accomplice later identified as Usman Sheikh.

The Khudian police also claimed to have arrested two men who allegedly killed a local farmer during a robbery bid on April 12.

Mansab Ali and Tahir had shot Abdul Ghafoor dead when he was returning to his home on his tractor-trolley after selling his sugarcane yield at Chunian sugar mills.
