DADU, April 19: Five women and three policemen were injured when police baton charged protesting women who pelted stones on police on Mehar-Fareedabad road in the Mehar area on Saturday.

A large number of residents of Mirzoo Khoso village, including women and children, staged a demonstration on the road and burnt tyres to protest against killing of Ghulam Rasool Suhag.

They were led by deceased’s sisters Nusrat, Fiza, Fatima and Haliman.

They accused Imdad Suhag, Sakhawat Ali and Ali Hassan of killing Ghulam Rasool and the Mehar police of supporting the accused.

They said that the accused were issuing threats to their family members and had attacked their house.

A heavy contingent of the Mehar police reached the venue of the protest and baton charged women who pelted stones on police, resulting in injuries to five women and three policemen.

The director of Dadu region office of the provincial ombudsman, Saeed Ahmed Mobejo, who was going to Dadu from Mehar, stopped and asked the Mehar SHO to arrest the accused.

He directed the Dadu DPO to conduct an inquiry into the violence against the protesters. He asked the SHO and 30 policemen to appear in his office on Wednesday for an enquiry.

The DPO has appointed the DSP headquarters as inquiry officer to look into the incident.
